Dear Friends,
As October arrives, the crisp air and changing leaves remind us that transformation is both natural and necessary. At the Central Topeka Grocery Oasis (CTGO), we are living out that same spirit this season. While the harvest of a full-service grocery store is not yet here, we are working daily to cultivate the relationships, leadership, and resources that will make it possible.
This month, our focus has been on strengthening partnerships and investing in leadership development. CTGO has been awarded a Topeka Community Foundation grant for our continued work on this project, and we have applied for the Kansas Leadership Transformation Grant, which will enable our core team to continue developing as leaders and enhance the board’s ability to guide this project. These resources are helping us deepen our understanding of governance, strategies, and effective advocacy, which are essential for maintaining momentum as we work toward establishing a full-service grocery store.
Equally important is listening to and amplifying the voices of the community. Central Topeka residents have lived without a grocery store for far too long, and their input continues to shape the direction of this project. We remain committed to ensuring that the grocery store we bring to life is not only functional but also reflective of the culture, history, and needs of the people it serves.
This is where you come in. Your support makes the difference between possibility and reality. If you are interested in becoming a monthly donor, your consistent contributions will help sustain momentum throughout each stage of the project. We will share regular updates through a “monthly progress tracker,” so you can see firsthand the impact your generosity is making.
Additionally, if your business, congregation, or organization would like to learn more, we would be honored to provide an update on our progress, which is making strides. Sharing our story not only raises awareness but also strengthens the collective effort required to make this project successful. Please reach out if you’d like to schedule a time on our monthly calendar—we welcome every opportunity to connect.
As we move further into the fall season, I am reminded that every great harvest begins with preparation and patience. With your help, we are planting seeds of change that will grow into a thriving grocery store and a stronger, healthier Central Topeka.
These efforts may not always be visible, but like seeds beneath the soil, they prepare us for the growth that will come.
With gratitude,
Nadia Arbelo, M.Ed., ABD, MEDP
